TikTok has announced the suspension of ad delivery in the United States and this is the result of the enactment of a U.S. law banning the platform.
The ban officially takes effect today (19th January), impacting millions of users and advertisers who relied on the app for engagement and outreach.
What About The Advertisers?
Ads targeting U.S. audiences have been stopped indefinitely. Campaigns and ad groups that were delivered to the U.S. will be automatically paused.
TikTok’s advertising tools, such as TikTok Ads Manager and Business Center, remain operational for campaigns in other regions.
For advertisers with multi-region campaigns, ad groups targeting the U.S. will stop running, while those targeting other countries will continue to deliver.
Campaigns using Campaign Budget Optimization (CBO) with U.S. ad groups will be entirely paused. Advertisers are encouraged to create new campaigns excluding U.S. targeting or duplicate existing campaigns for non-U.S. audiences.
Campaigns and Reporting
Paused campaigns will automatically resume when TikTok becomes available in the U.S. again. Campaigns that reach their end dates during the suspension will not restart.
Historical campaign reporting will remain accessible through TikTok Ads Manager and related APIs.
Measurement and Tools
Advertisers running measurement studies in the U.S. will experience interruptions. Historical data up to January 18, 2025, will still be available.
Planning tools like Reach Curve API and TikTok Planner will also have limited functionality for U.S.-specific campaigns.
Support for TikTok Advertisers
TikTok has reassured advertisers that its global tools, including Creative Center and brand safety solutions, will remain available for non-U.S. campaigns.
Advertisers requiring additional assistance are encouraged to reach out via TikTok’s Business Help Center or Developer Portal.
TikTok stated it is “working hard to restore our service in the U.S. as quickly as possible.”
While the timeline for a resolution remains uncertain, the platform is committed to keeping advertisers informed of any developments.
